Australian Thunder Egg
Australian Thunder Egg
Are you looking for a unique piece to add to your collection?
Look no further, this baby is for you!
Unearthed from Mt Hay in Queensland Australia, this volcanic rock has been semi polished on one side to reveal the unique natural colours.
They form in rhyolite, a slow-moving treacle-like lava, and water carrying silica seeps through cavities, leaving deposits.
The deposits line and fill the cavity, first with a darker matrix material, then an inner core of agate or chalcedony.
It’s crazy to think Queensland had the right volcanic conditions hundreds of millions of years ago to form this beauty!
